I'm planning to deconstruct my 8" J-Tube this spring and resurrect from the ashes, a batch box masonry heater, all bell, minimal bench.
I'm debating between an original batch rocket and the DSR2.
I really love the efficiency and proven track record of the original, but with that heat riser, you have to put the firebox way down almost on the floor. I'd like a firebox up at a more reasonable height for viewing and loading since I have a bad back that is particularly activated when bending over.
I read the entire DSR2 build thread and while the efficiency is good, it doesn't seem as good as the original. Am I wrong? Did I miss something? I mean, they're still very close and it would probably be an improvement on my J, but I'm neurotic like that.
Any other words of wisdom, warnings, or snide remarks? I really am interested in other points of view. I am experienced in J's but not in batch boxes and I'd like not to rebuild very often.

We have had very good results in the dsr3. Very steady burn, easy start and last but not leest, super easy build. Check the info on the forum regarding dsr3. Peter has a sketchup file which you can easily scale to your size. Now build 6 stoves type dsr3 and they all burn very nice. One we even tested together with Peterberg and showing good results. Good luck!
