for the record - here's the thing powered by 160mm J-tube. It will be replaced by DSR2. it heats a small space, only 16m2, and the bricks heat up well in 2h but the air temperature stays low so the j-tube doesn't have enough power to even when I use a metal barrel.

I won't make this mistake again, 10cm of insulation under firebox is not enough even for a small heater, it burned down the wood: new look:

Orange, careful, i don't think you have enough gap above the secondary chamber.

You think it could be a problem? Idea is to have top gap 10-15cm, too keep the whole structure low as possible. I had similar top gap on j-tube, CSA-wise it shouldn't be a restriction.
I know Peter recommends 30+cm for heat extraction, but that's not a priority here.

What is your plan for cooking, do you intend to use the top box and the outside top as a hot plate?. I have read most of the post about the stoves development but I can’t get my head around using the top box as an oven. When the stove is running surly it will be to hot to cook anything inside the box?

cooking will be done inside the firebox like in an oven (will add a sliding door) and on top of the bell. top box will be made out of CFB and will have a fixed window just for the view

Ok that is great but do you have any ideas of what the temperature will be inside the top box and do you have a plan to regulate the temperature? I can only guess but it seems to me that the top box may be over 500c?

on top of the bell it might get 400C. You can regulate cooking temp by moving the pot on the colder side or reducing fire

Is the oven the same as the top box which is being made of CFB?

oven = firebox, taller than top box and made out of firebricks.
