Wow, moving right along. Great job and efforts, briank ! Thanks to peterberg for sharing a respected and sought after opinion/ advice. I'm interested to see the cost of the vacuum board "casing" if you will, and questions- will it be a simple box shape, halves, would you need to cut a port? I had thought about a simple sheet meta box within which castings or firebrick could be placed, than back filled with loose perlite... I'd say the vac board would be much easier to work up if adjustments where necessary. It would be a vacuum formed ceramic fiber 2 piece unit similar to what you already made in the past Eric with built in p channel. Except the basic Sketchup form needs to be manipulated to permit it to be lined with half thickness firebrick at the bottom, sides and rear. It would be very light, fairly rigid, and very well insulated. I just don't know how well it would hold up to compression due to the weight/abuse of firewood loadings. They can create any shape or size, see www.temteksolutions.com/products/vacuum-formed-shapes-5292

Googled it. I am pretty sure Fiber Board is what I used. Still not sure if it's exactly the same but to anyone who comes across this thread and may use Fiber Board, be careful about breathing in the dust when sawing it. Good luck and have fun!

Hard to tell, this would be a whole new development project. Ok thanks. I suspected as much. The sales rep got back to me this afternoon regarding the same question, here's his response: "Brian, I am in process of getting the new price of the shape with the additional of the male / female ends. I should have it to you early next week. I definitely feel more comfortable with the addition of the firebrick to the unit. The vacuum board is a dense product but it will compress. I have attached the data sheet for you to review." Please post what the new cost will be with the M/F ends. Also the weight of each unit. Since you have a connection already would you mind asking what an 8" ID would cost? Thanks briank! Great job.

Thanks Chris, I should have a per unit price on the 6"ID x 24" long units with male and female ends early this week, and I'll post it. I'll check on a price for 8"ID units and if there is enough demand we can organize a group buy for those separately. What length would be best in 8" ID? Still go with 24" and let people stack them?

Yes I think 24" with M/F ends and stacked. So really anyone buying them needs 2 already. With a min order of 6? I think you said. That's not very many people. For me I am on the west coast so the only other factor is the shipping. EDIT: Oops, better make them 29". I forgot to check. donkey32.proboards.com/thread/734/peterberg-batch-box-dimensions

Ok, I finally heard back from the sales rep on a per unit price with the male and female ends. Here's his email this morning: Brian, Here is your revised pricing: 2600 F Vacuum Formed Fiber Sleeve 6” ID x 8” OD x 24” Long $ 46.00 each Includes ½” deep x ½” wide shiplap (Male/female) ends FOB – Pittsburgh, PA Lead time = 3-4 weeks ARO Miminum order of $ 200.00 If you have any questions please let us know. Thank you, Product Sales Manager Temtek Solutions 2 John Street | Mckees Rocks, PA 15136 Tel: 888-265-2608 | Local: 412-771-5533 Cell: 412-334-0618 www.temteksolutions.comSo the final per unit price for the 6" internal diameter, 8" external diameter, 24" long vacuum formed ceramic fiber riser with male and female ends is $46 each. I will have to pick them up in Pittsburgh, package them securely, and ship them individually from here in Johnstown PA. As such, final cost will be more, probably $70-$85, but that will depend on costs for packaging to protect the product and final shipping costs. They will take 3-4 weeks to manufacture and I won't collect anything until I have the final product in my hands and can obtain shipping costs and post some photos here. I need to give the sales rep a final order with the total number of risers soon. Please let me know if you're interested ASAP if you have not already so I can place the order. Also, they are looking at the batch box files and I should have a rough estimate on a price for a 2 piece vacuum formed ceramic fiber batch box within the next week or two.

I'm going to be placing an order for these risers on Monday. I can only preorder units for those who have stated they definitely want to get one or more of these (I can't afford to order extras and have to cover the cost for them) so please let me know via PM between now and Monday if you definitely want one.

I won't collect anything until I have the final product in my hands and can obtain shipping costs and post some photos here. Not a good idea. Get us to put our money where our commitment is; that is, unless you can use all the pieces you order. Consider your commitment of time and effort as well; you'll need to travel to the Pit, then box and ship. Trust is good to a degree, but prudence must make herself part of your endeavor; I've been caught holding the bag before to the tune of several hundred turtlebuks. Advise accordingly Turtle, cash in hand

Did you ever get a price for the burn chamber halves as well?

Did you ever get a price for the burn chamber halves as well? That will probably take another week or two for a rough estimate. Then the batch box drawings will need to be modified to accept a firebrick lining on the bottom, sides and rear, and the outsides will be made into a simple rectangle shape for better stability and sturdiness and to make it easier to encase in a metal box or frame to which a door can be attached. Once the drawings are finalized we can get a final price on those, but the modifications of the drawings are probably beyond my skill level at present.

I still don't know the unit weight or shipping costs but I'm hoping they are less than I originally thought.
