Not my design, which was inspired greatly by Shilo and Adiel's sided batch anyway....these guys are building Peter's batch as shown but with a short riser. It can work. As Peter has mentioned elsewhere, if velocity is too high the flame front will stretch out of the riser. The key is slower velocity throughout, but not so slow you get front burn. Riser height is not a fixed constant in my opinion, totally will depend on what you are doing downstream.
How did I do Shilo? Yes?

actually, our work began on Matthew design and we try to improve it by doing the thing more and more complicated. when peter enter to the process, the direction was reversed and we start to simplify things step by step to find out what the rely reasons that the stove is working, so we leave out thing after thing and time after time find that the stove is still working fine.

Shilo, in your batch-box stoves testing, did you do any testing for the performance variation between square and round (4.1B size) risers?

shiloWould you be willing to share some more details of your 4,1 B system, please. I was right about to give up constructing an RMH stove for myself as I'm height limited space. But now I regained my hope. I Watched the speed up movie of your built But I can not get the firebox detail :-( What is the material used as the bell top capping in this film ? www.facebook.com/kaminmassa/videos/551010965051638/

So if only 4.1b for riser geight would that make minimum riser height about half normal height this would make my 4 inch batch bath much more efficient at heating i could almost put the bath over the riser without having to exhaust the riser into a small 3 sided bell first?

I'd like a shorter riser so i can cook.
My concern is will the short riser 4-8B have enough power and velocity to push the gasses trough a massive bench (without bypass)...
