after a lot of work and dozens of tests, the simple bottom line is you can do a batch box with just 40-50cm riser.

Just to confirm is that 40-50cm measured from the floor of the firebox to the top of the riser?

yes. I know it's sounds unbelievable but I have seen it in my eyes enough times to become a believer in the unbelievable.

Hi can you explain your findings ?
when you say it's works do you mean it drafts and has the usual rams flame ? And works exactly the same way as a longer riser ??
This is good news am sure for Alot of reasons

Dustylfc,
I'm pretty sure Shilo is talking about the split riser that he, Adiel and Matt Walker have been developing. If so, you'll find some answers by backtracking in this thread and visiting walkerstoves.com

no. I'm talking about the regular riser. just shorter. when I say it's works I mean it drafts and has the usual rams flame and go to extreme low co levels (in some cases under 10 PPM) and nice efficiency (in some cases up to 98%)and smoke-back free and can produce nice flat lines at the graph for long time.

Excellent news
Would this be the same for most common batch box sizes ?
Mine personally will be 8 inch

This is very interesting!
Was your experiment done with the batch box core alone, or with a chimney or flue attached?
If there was a chimney, were the hot gases cooled by a bell, etc, before exiting to the chimney?
