Hi Everyone!
I would like to share with you my experience of molding an 8"1/2 system. In fact I just molded the floor and walls of the firebox. The heat riser will be built out of insulated fire brick since I already have a bunch from previous experimentation.
Here a photo of the mould
I put tuck tape and varnish on it.
I will redo the right part on the photo cause I didnt had a vibrating table when I started it.
I have a sketchup modele of the mould and project but I dont know how to post it since its to big file.
Do not hesitate if you have any advice to give me. It is my first experience with casting and I'm really not a pro.

Looks great! Just need a forklift to move it around! What is the cubic capacity of the firebox and how many bags of castable did you use per side?

Thank you!
It´s a bit heavy, yeah :-D... 3x25kg bags is needed for each side. The fire box is approx 12"wide 18" tall and 24" deep.
I live in Quebec and we have pretty rough winter so I tink it's gonna be the right size for our need. The house will be 3500sq/f on 3 level+ a loft.

We plan to build with refractory bricks and lime plaster, two bells on two story , by-pass valve to pre heat the chimney. Mr. Berg told me that the isa could be 129 sq/ft. I like the look of this masonry heater, so we might go in this direction for the aspect More photo for you Morticcio. the finished heat riser the core I am still trying to dry/cook it, I did some small fire in it but I wonder how many sould I make before I could light it up for real ?!? As you can notice on the photo, there another core backwards but I heated it up too quickly during the cooking process and it cracked at the surface, I would like to avoid this situation with this one.

Hi! I did a road test tonight even if the mold has cracked slightly on one of the two half during cooking, I believe in remold another one but I will build a ceramic kiln prior to cook it properly.
I filled the firebox with red pine logs. As they were cut into 12 " I could fill it completely. This was all a show. Powerful and loud, I did a little video

Your dimensions are the same proportions of Petersburg's batchbox but bigger right?
Those logs look pretty big, did it take awhile to come up to heat?
Is this going to go into the house in your posting picture?

Hi Mr. Wolf!
Yup! I took the mesurement in the excel file in another .
Logs were pretty dry (moisture meter said 11%) so it didnt took lots of time. Combustion was completed in about 45-50 min.
Yeah a house similar as the one on the photo.Ill strat the build next spring. The batch box will be built in the center of the house.

It is looking good!! Love the different camera angle. I think that might be the first 'view from the riser' video?

I do not know Morticcio, I'm not in this environment for long enough for me to pronounce.
Would it be a good idea to make the P-channel out of castable?

As I will repeat my mold, I decided to make a version with the integrated P channel. Would it be a good idea to do it this way?
8,5" mould with P channel
