This place has a HUGE variety of refractories, and according to info I found on a metal working forum, they will sell by the pound to individuals. And they are in my figurative back yard! So I have gone from fireclay and perlite as my only choices to pages of choices. I am assembling the ingredients for a burn chamber and heat riser that will be 4" pipe inside 6" pipe with refractory stuffed in between. This will all be insulated in a cylinder full of perlite. So, if you of a mind, check out the link, and tell me what you think. You might actually find something you want for your own build(s).

Wow! Look at all the choices. I have trouble sourcing fire clay in my neighborhood.

So I finally sent an email to this company, asking if they would sell a sample to a small business making masonry wood stoves. Here is what I got back:

So, what to tell him? I would likes to send him a link showing him a batch box being constructed. I also don't want to step on any toes here, so I though I would ask for permission/ assistance. I can give him the dimensions, that should be simple, but describing it... BTW, no I am not trying to manufacturing batch box rockets, I just needed to seem legit to a giant company, so a small business seemed like the best way to present my self.

I'd just say you are in R&D working on house heating along the lines of a Masonry Heater, send him a link to the project at this stage (the batch box construction) and give him some dimensions or your calculated volumes for each portion.

Great find. This URC factory is less than an hour from home; maybe they'll sell direct. If I ever get a good design working, it may be a good source for the burn chamber material

Ronyon, I just sent a request to that company too. I'll post what they reply with.
