Hi,
Assuming that you're using some form of slab to top off a bell (thinking bench here), does anyone have a system for ensuring a good seal between slabs? I suspect that small amounts of thermal movement would loosen a simple mortar joint.
Thanks

I have been thinking about this as well. A couple items that may be used:
1. fire clay slip 2. ceramic cloth gasket 3. fire proof caulk
Maybe some of experts will chime in.

For a bench?? A good layer of cob and/or thick earthen plaster over top.

Or a steel plate underneath

Corbelled adobe bricks, again buried in cob. Or Matthew Walker's half-barrel benches.
