I thought you guys would enjoy an update on my current outdoor multi function system. It's based on a PvdB style firebox with windows on both sides and on the upper small door. It has the adjustable baffle over the burner port on top of the barrel so I can route heat not needed for cooking into the half barrel benches. I still need to finish the benches and backrest, but it's working very well so far. And a view into the firebox and throat of a batch burner...

Great stove Matt - your dog/cat always manage to find the warmest spot!
How is the stove you installed in the restaurant doing?
Is that a Pisla HTT136 door you are using? If so could you answer some questions please as I'm looking to fit one to the front of the 6" horizontal feed I'm building (as per Peter's batchbox.skp). It looks like it could fit, the only thing missing is a slider to control the air for the P-channel.
In the Pisla catalogue the dimensions for the door are: Masonry frame mm (inch): 180 x 345 (7 x 13.5) External dimesions mm (inch): 230 x 390 (9 x 15)
The batchbox dimensions (sq edge to sq edge) are: Internal mm (inch): 220 x 330 (8.5 x 13) External mm (inch): 280 x 390 (11 x 15)
Are your dimesnions the same? How is the frame/door mounted? Is there an extra piece you need to purchase? How does it perform?
Many thanks.

Thanks Morticcio, those animals don't lie. These things are just the most comfortable spot around!
Yeah, that's the door, the HTT 136. I really like it, it's a good fit for the 6" system firebox. I changed the internal dimensions on this box to match the mount hole size for the frame, which is in practice 14.5"H x 8.25"W. There is no extra piece needed. The frame has about a 1" deep flange which protrudes into the fire box, with two holes on the bottom. I used masonry screws through the holes there, into the firebox floor. The top of the outer frame has a small lip that extends above and deeper than the rest of the frame. I think it's to lever the frame into an opening behind a masonry skin, then it would be fastened with the holes at the bottom to capture the frame. In my application I relieved a bit of the firebox top to accept that lip, and again, just captured it with masonry screws. It's hard to describe, but pretty simple to mount.
The door works well, but even with the air damper removed there still isn't enough intake air, so I run it with the lower door cracked open. The catch has a few grooves that allow a couple different open settings, so that works well. The two doors divide the firebox feed, so fuel size is limited by that frame between the doors, about 6" sq. is the max, which is fine for me. The firebox is so hot that the doors' finish burned off the first time I used it. Since I put it outdoors, it's starting to rust a bit. I decided I didn't care, it's still going to last a lifetime, but if you were concerned about appearances it would take some careful seasoning with oil for the first little while to seal the finish since any paint is going to burn off. Let's see, what else? I dunno, I'm pretty happy with it. My homemade doors and hardware were maybe a better solution for me since they were totally custom, but this one is a pretty good match for an off the shelf product.
As far as I know the restaurant is happy with the heated seating system I built. They are all the way across the country from me, so I don't get to go check on them, unfortunately. They invited me back this month to set up a kitchen garden for them, but I'm just too wrapped up in my own farm chores and my rocket stove obsession to leave at the moment. I'll hopefully go check up on them this fall as I've got another trip to the east coast coming up then.

Many thanks for the info - will have to weigh up the cost of fabricating a custom door + glass vs one off-the-shelf so to speak.

That's a great setup you've got there Matt, thanks for keeping us updated on it. I found this old Victorian fireplace insert at the metal recycling centre, I love the look and shape of the grate, I'm trying to design an outside system to incorporate it in.

Thanks Vortex. Dang man, that thing is great! I can't wait to see what you do with it.
