I purchased fire brick mortar ... and trying to make sure it's mixed RIGHT.
One article I read said to mix it a bit sloppy. Bag instructions leave it dry enough that I'd not call it sloppy.
So I need the advice of the experts here.
I'm mixing about 8 oz of mortar powder at a time, using it, then mixing the next batch.
Anyone wanna advise me as to how to assure myself that I've got the best mix for the best results ?

I've had the best luck mixing water until it is sticky enough to butter a brick and hold it vertical or carefully upside down without it falling off. You want it as dry as you can make it and still have it sticky enough for the above. Good luck!
