saw this posted on bioenergylists.org today; "The Next Generation of Heating Wood Stove Design Challenge is now underway! The Challenge seeks to promote next generation stove designs, build a community of innovators and showcase stove innovation to the public.
The Design Challenge will culminate in a Wood Stove Decathlon, modeled after the Solar Decathlon, which will take place on the National Mall in November 2013. The Challenge grew from discussions between the Alliance for Green Heat and editors at Popular Mechanics magazine who believe innovation can overcome some of the problems inherent in the wood stove and that a "smart" wood stove may be on the horizon.
The Challenge is sponsored by the Alliance for Green Heat with a number partner institutions: Popular Mechanics magazine, the Washington State Department of Ecology, the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA), the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, the Biomass Thermal Energy Council, Osprey Foundation Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association (HPBA), The Arbolito Foundation, and Sunstein, Kann, Murphy & Timbers, an IP law firm."
A short description of the finalist projects/teams can be found in the link below. The "Dragon Heat" team's work seems to be based on experimental work initiated by contributors to this forum. (Isn't that a picture of you Peter, and are you involved or have you been consulted) LINK: www.forgreenheat.org/stovedesign/teams.html?utm_source=Press+Release+Finalists+Draft&utm_campaign=Press+Release+Finalists&utm_medium=email#t16

I've read the batch rocket thread probably 30 times. That's DEFINITELY a pic of Petersburg's stove.
EDIT: I've seen the Walker Stove on the forum, which is based on his design as well.

There's two of 'em at least in the list of finalists. And yep, I'm one of the selected teams using a variation of his core. Thanks so much to Peter for all that you share here and for giving me your blessing on the entry, and thanks to every one here for all the ideas shared, dialog and community. I'd better get to work!
Oh, I would like to share that I don't have any serious commercial aspirations for this project. I entered because I was real excited about all the stuff we've been sharing here, and I've been playing with. When I see a chimney smoking or read about a family losing their home to a chimney fire, I find myself wanting to scream out that there is a better way. I really believe in these things we are all playing with, obviously.

(Isn't that a picture of you Peter, and are you involved or have you been consulted) Yes, that's me, in my workshop. Laughed my head off when I saw this, practically ROTFL. Two ladies in Houston, Texas and me have been working on an optimized J-tube stove for nearly 10 months now. Never met them, don't know how they look like, communication went exclusively by mail. It happened to be possible to send in two applications for one team and I've been persuading them to add this batch box as well. And here we are, finalist at the wood stove challenge, ugliest stove of them all, that's for sure. matthew, you'd better to implement some unique features into your stove. Otherwise, these will look too much the same core design. Very high score, two out of fourteen and there's competition from some very well-known names. ;D

Peter, I think I have a fairly unique approach going on with my entry. I'm confident it's quite different than the other stove which utilizes your core. I would really like to share but now I'm thinking I should keep it under wraps a bit until the contest. I really didn't expect to be chosen, but I am thrilled. I believe your input helped a lot to that end, and I am very grateful. I'll share more with all of you when it's appropriate.
Oh, and I do believe we are in direct competition for the ugliest award! Did you see the photo they chose to post of my entry? I didn't really intend for that to be the poster for my entry, but I'll take it.

Peter, your photo really rocks! I bet it concentrates a lot of viewing energy :-) At the back you can also see a wooden racket for dusting off the blankets -that just adds to perfection :-) GOOD LUCK to both of you!

Is the rocket mass heater (and variants of) "open source"? My original rocket/bell project is, the optimizations publicized in the "Small scale development" thread are. The original batch box idea is Canyon's, based on the rocket/bell layout. Optimizations of the batch box are open source again. Large chunks of rocket stove technology are open, I would say.
