i have a few pallets of old concrete bags that sat around too long and the moisture in the air ruined them. most are hardened, but if you smack it on the ground a few times, 50-80% turns right back to powered concrete. i have access to PURE clay and can buy decent Fill Sand. Got lots of straw, but was thinking about adding that old concrete into the mix, just to get rid of it. and to strengthen the cob.
this heater is all welded out of 1/4" steel plate. i'm going for as much radiant heat as possible.
if i did mix in the concrete to the cob, where would the appropriate place to use that be? in the thermal mass? as an outside shell? as structural cob to make my exhaust tunnels?

Perfect for thermal mass.

Just work it quick, it is going to harden on you before it dries out, unlike cob alone...

awesome, thanks
will it improve our heat retention? or hinder it?

All i can remember, it's better than cob for mass, and worse than granite.
