My kids and I are building a cob pizza oven. I am thinking about using limestone fines for the sand in the cob. It is easy to get here, and cheap/free. Would it have a tendency to flake or break off under high heat conditions?

There are industrial processes linked with the process of limestone being heated. If you view the Wikipedia page entitled :
Carboniferous limestone
and go down to near the end of the page, to the Economics section, it might help you to make an informative guess as to whether limestone might or might not cause you problems.
