Hi everybody! Well, i would like for my next build to use the tall gaz bottles i used for the barrell, as a J tube. Everybody keeps telling me that steel will eventualy burn out. So i was thinking of casting a layer of something inside thoses tubes to protect them. Should i use castable refractory? Ciment fondu with perlite or vermiculite mixed. This stuff? www.solargil.com/article.php?id=5731A micaceous clay with grog in it. If i use this, should i add perlite or vermiculite in it? Or for the burn tunel, i was thinking of using smell flat bricks cut at a bevel, and aranged around so none of theses can fall. The part i'm most woried of, is the burn tunel, as if the casting on top breaks, it will fall. It's time to decide things for me. I i have most of the metal parts needed. I live in the alps, and quite high, we don't have clay in the ground. Thanks a lot. Max.

Expensive shop.
I would rather recoment to cast around paper tubes, which could be removed (destroyed) or simple burn out.

Yes Karl, i was thinking along thoses lines, using pvc tubes for the inside mold, which i would pull out from the top! I don't want to make dioxin Exept for the horizontal part which would have to be cardboard. What i want to do, is have a metal outside for longevity through transportation. The thing has, realy has to be made out of gaz bottles and water boiler. , and later, when i get a new workshop, will be plumbed in a proper bench. If i was sure the 5mm thick steel would hold for more than five years, i would make it all steel 12 incher system.
