Dee Bee, Very nice video. Appears professionally produced to me. Being a brewer, I especially like the use of a mini-keg. Is this a tester/experiment or do you cook on this now? Canyon

Here is my test. Had to see if it would really draw the flames across the tunnel. All these bricks are dry stacked on uneven ground with lots of air gaps. It still worked great. Now I have to build a cabin to put it in. John

I'm interested in how this has held up over time. Do the metal inner cans hold together? One thing, I suspect that it's easy enough to rebuild it if they fall apart, as long as the body cans stay intact.
Next, add pot skirt for batch cooking jobs.
I'd like to make one with a cooking surface (the "5 gallon can rocket stove" video out there), and the flue goes up to something like a co-axial can heat exchanger to get more heat for a room or shop from it.

I made a similar rocket, and the thin metal of the inner cans burned through after just a week or so of heavy use.. Nice vids, though!

I recently built a Rocket stove/ "wood gas" grill. It holds fuel in reserve and can reach temps up to 500 degrees F. Very efficient and could be used to power an oven also. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jY8Rky42S88

That is quite a long burn tunnel.. I do hope that when you finally build it permanent, you either shorten the horizontal (burn tunnel) or lengthen the vertical (heat riser)..

My heat riser and fuel hopper are only 3/4 in. apart. How can I shorten the burn tunnel? I tried a longer riser but the grill temp got too hot.

Sorry, I was commenting on johnjmw's brick jobbie..
Honestly, I have a dial-up connection to the internet. I don't have the bandwidth to see your youtube vids. Post a pic or two.. ??

Donkey, this was just a first test. I didn't think it would draw let alone roar. Esp since it was not mudded. More air leaks than I realized till I burned it one evening and saw the spaces between most of the bricks. I'll be doing a little better job this spring when I pick up a barrel to go over the top so I can guage how long I will need or want the burn tunnel. I've rebuilt this one three or four times and have now and the current burn tunnel is two or three bricks shorter. I will be making some insulated cob to pack around it also. I want to see what kinda gap I will want when I get to build my permanent ( as far as they go that is) one.

.. Yer standard 55 gal. steel drum is about 22 inches in diameter. I figure 11 inches from the center of the burn tunnel. You can cheat over a little in any direction if you want, so it can be made shorter by an inch or so pretty easily.

I'll keep that in mind. It looks like I'll be playing with this for a year or two before I get enough of my Earthship done to be worth putting this in. Though I might build one that the weather wont bother and have some heat while I am doing the building. It was pointed out that I have to start long before I will ever get it done.
