Great build!! I wonder how long the heat riser will last before it burns out? Have you considered making it out of the same brick as the burn chamber? It would leave less room for insulation around it though. Thanks for the great pics.

It would leave less room for insulation around it though. Thanks for the great pics. I haven't seen any sign of damage to the metal that the heat riser is made out of. It has the same film on it that the firebrick has. I went with metal because it would heat up faster. Now that I have experienced firebrick that was 900 degrees on one side and 120 degrees on the other side of the 4.5 inch dimension, I think firebrick would take a little longer to heat up but it seems like it would be longer lasting and safer. I am glad that you have enjoyed the pictures. Will you be building one soon?

wonderful pictures with write up. Thanks soo much Brian Glad that you like it. My son and I had a great time building the heater and the girls loved feeding the fire and warming their feet in the cement blocks underneath.

Nice build and write up. It would be nice to know how it performs over the next six months, especially during start up and shut down. This could be a good design to help with burn back issues.

Sorry, I don't have all the lingo down yet. You know, when the fire creeps back up the feed tube and smokes into the room
