I don't know what heading this thread might come under, so I've put it here.
Does anyone know anything about home built stoves and building insurance in the UK?
This might be an equivalent question: Are there ways in which a home built stove can meet UK legal requirements so that the overall installation doesn't contravene building regulations?
If so, then I think insurance wouldn't be a problem.
But I haven't been able to find what legal requirements stoves have to meet in the UK in order to be acceptable.
One phrase that seemed to come up was that stoves 'offered to the market' had to meet such-and-such a regulation. But a home made stove isn't offered to the market, so does that mean no requirements are made of it?
Or does a stove need to be offered to the market in order for the installation to be OK?
Thanks for any help!

I live in Guernsey so we do often have slightly different regulations, I have asked my local building inspector in the past about installing a masonry stove. He said he could only pass a stove that has pasted UK standards with a code stamp. So we cant even have an open fireplace only enclosed box style stoves with a door. However I also think the insurers are going to be another obstacle.
