I was thinking of the coming sugaring season and building an evaporator. Can anyone give me a good reason that a rocket stove would not work for this. My thoughts are making a rocket stove with a vertical burn tube under one end of a 2' x 4' pan with the exhaust out the oposite end. I was thinking that if I leave a 1 1/2" space between the end of the vertical tube and the tray. Any thoughts? Thanks, Kent

Maple sugaring is agreat use of the best qualities of a rocket stove (efficient use of fuel, smoke free, etc.). I have perhaps the worlds smallest sugarin' rig and built my first stove with that purpose in mind. You'll get a hot spot directly over the heat riser so the pan will not boil evenly, but perhaps build it with a slight tilt toward the riser so that as the sap boils off you'll still have enough left to avoid the dreaded "boil over."
