Thank you. I want to avoid ceramic fibre in peak temperature areas. Have vermiculite firebricks, have castable refractory, have loose vermiculite. Hmmm!
Still weighing up ideas for a tiny heater for a tiny space, a vortex J tube in a cottage rocket style of arrangement might be fun....

Yes I dont blame you, my riser has a thick crust of the water glass product but I will be changing it next season as I dont feel relaxed using ceramic fibre either. Vermiculite in brick size pieces should be fine if you can find a way to retain it without glueing, maybe use mitered corners and wire or wrap it with basalt exhaust wrap.
