You’re probably gonna need to supply more specifications for the desired use-case.
Are we heating water for…
A crawfish boil?
A hot tub with people in it (who we don’t want to boil like crawfish)?
A pressureless, open-air, thermosyphon hydronic heating system (because we don’t want to blow ourselves up)?
Are we trying to do something crazy like a steampunk piston engine?
Or are we heating a kettle for tea?

What is the best design to heat water with a J tube? I don't know of any designs for J tubes but, the best and safest way to heat water is to build the stove "inside" a water tank. 2nd option if you only want to heat a small amount of water is a pot or chamber of water. Avoid tubbing at all cost.
