Hi,
My project is a pizza oven heated with a rocket stove, a mix between those two ideas :
I'm doing the whole project in FreeCAD first, here's where I am.
And the cutted view
Dimensions are : - Rocket stove is 10cm section, the full rocket stove is 60cm height
- The oven inside space is 55cmx55cmx15cm - The radius of the chimney is 8cm, and the height is 40cm
When I will understand how to properly print measures with freecad, I will update images.
If I want the fire to enter the oven and lick the ceiling, how high should be the fire chamber ? Should my chimney be more than 8cm circle, as the rocket stove is a 10cm square ?
If I don't care about the weight, should I prefer ceramic fiber insulation at the left/right/back/top of the oven, or refractory bricks like the ground ?
Thanks for your help !

Well you could start by reviewing how to build an efficient J tube as you will need every bit of heat to get your floor bricks upto temperature. I dont think you can expect to cook perfect pizza but people have built functioning ovens that they are happy with. To get good pizza you need a porous cooking floor to stop the base going soggy and a high heat source above the pizza to cook the topping. Have a look here to see how an insulated J tube is built …. donkey32.proboards.com/thread/355/small-scale-development

Hi eoli3n, if you go to the "show us your rocket pizza oven" thread you can see my version on pages 4 & 5. I have a much higher oven dome but it didn't work properly until I ran the heat flow under the floor. My oven works pretty well but I think if I had a lower and higher mass roof (under the insulated roof), it would be ideal.

Although the Ooni is not really a rocket stove the design is very interesting. We have one and they burn quite smokeless and with very little fuel. (we genereally use small pieces of barkless hardwood). In essence the Ooni works like a J-tube but the pizza is baked in the burn tunnel. Also the stainless steel body is insulated which makes it focus the heat on the pizza and not loae too much to the environment. I would say to make a good pizza oven that heats up quickly just recreate the ooni. Insulate the top and sides. Put a firbrick pizza tile on the bottom and insulate below that. Also insulating the door of the oven andmaybe a small glass to look at the pizza is nice thing to have.

Hi eoli3n,
You could have a quick watch of this excerpt from a longer movie all about rocket ovens - this has some design and build advice from the legend that is Tim Barker (rocket oven master!) - you might find it interesting
