It's been a long journey, and I had to accept that a rocket mass heater would never get by inspection, but I'm finally approaching a masonry heater build. I had a design drawn up by Alex Chernov ages ago, and have even dry stacked much of the design. Now, the final gathering of materials has begun.
The masonry supplies aren't a problem. It is the hardware that I'm struggling with, specifically the cast iron doors, clean-outs, grates, and louvres. I can find ash doors and dampers of the right size nearly everywhere, but that's it. No luck finding anything meant for use in a masonry stove or fireplace other than the sites linked to on the MHA website. That's a start, but I'm in Canada and would prefer not to ship a bunch of cast-iron from the US.
It seems like clean-out doors sized to fit nicely between bricks should be common-place. The main stove doors are a specialty item, and I can understand their being hard to find. But I feel like wood stoves and fireplaces are common enough that this stuff should be available fairly locally. Any pointers to someone searching for this stuff. No need to limit it to my local, as I'm sure others have struggled with the right term to search for with Google or the yellow pages.

Check out dragontechrmh.com
He makes and sells his own ingenious design for a door that will not allow sparks to fly out, and it has a viewing window! Also he sells several designs of floor channels. He is somewhere in Montana USA. He posts here as Belgiangulch.
