Ran into a thread on Hearth.com where someone posted a link to Roxul insulation- www.roxul.com/residential/residential+videosHe said he used that stuff in his house and in his boiler room. Watching the video, they show multiple instances of direct flame hitting the insulation without degrading it and near the end they have a torch blowing at it with someone holding their hand to the other side (reminds me of aerogel). That got me thinking. . . Since you can cut through this stuff just like fiberglass batts, I can't imagine it'd be hard to build your own instant rocket stove out of this stuff! The tricky part would be supporting a pot or pan to use on it, but that's not an insurmountable problem (hang a pot off a stand). Might see if I can find it locally to experiment. It would be my first rocket stove.

Looks like the melting point is 2150F btw. It's made from "basalt rock and slag" so it's a stone wool type of product.
