I should add that the first 'version' of this thing only had 1 layer of ceramic fibre blanket on the outside of the outer barrel. In one of the album pics, you can see that under the green roof sheet there is a layer of 'foil insulation' usually used in building applications. That layer covered the ceramic fibre blanket in version 1, and no further insulation was used.
But there was a large heat transfer through that insulation layer to the wooden wall, and after 2 burns (one of which I cranked to ridiculously hot, too hot for cooking without burning the food) I decided on chipping out the cob between the barrels and adding another layer of blanket on the inside of the outer barrel.
The blanket kept its shape nicely, as you can see in one of the album pics. I had some off-cuts of ceramic fibre board on standby to act as spacers (or blanket supports) between the inner drum and the blanket on the 'roof' above it, but I didn't need to use it.
