it been a while since ive posted on this forum. the reason is ive been busy building this.
im about to start roofing the oak frame and i plan to fit a rocket mass heater. the plan is to position the heater in the existing house on the slate floor and then run the 20ft of flue into the extension and then out through the new roof.
the question is: is this the best plan to exit through the roof and if so how high does the flue need to be? my thoughts are that if the flue as shown on the builds on youtube exit in the eaves of the roof, then height is not an issue?
if i exit the flue in the eaves of the roof then is there any danger from nasty gases as that area of the garden is used to play in.
the roof felt goes on in a week so i need to sort out a solution.
thanks

Nice work on the frame! There is danger from the gasses and the extra draft of the roof flue is helpful at times. You should have the flue extend to at least two feet higher than the roof peak ideally. A quality insulated stack like ICC Excel (the version made in canada available here) is well worth the one time cost in my opinion. Keep up the good work and please share your rocket experience back when you get to it!

im still having problem finding a location for the flue. im in the middle of roofing the extension so i need to come up with a plan int he next couple of days. ive added a picture of what i was hoping to do. i was under the impression that draw from the chimney in a RMH is not important. this was based upon youtube clips of flues being placed under eves.
thanks roy

Your location looks good from this perspective. I assume you left out details in the drawing like height of the flue, cleanouts, cricket etc. and actually plan on including such details in construction.

canyon, i hope it works ok because im fitting the chimney flashing on next week. the stove was just a sketch and later i will be asking advice on the scaled detailed drawing with clean outs etc.
the main point is that i dont want the flue to be high above the roof. i may position the flue on the corner of the main house?
