Hi everybody. Well, i like the idea of a black oven. Along the system developped here. The problem for most, is the fly ash. Imagine, i would leave the riser to the side of the oven, bricks on the bottom, left back and top of the oven, for mass accumulation. And a wire mesh between the rest of the bell, and the oven. Like mosquito mesh. The question is, how hot is your bell, coupled with a batch? Thanks for your ideas and comments.

I am thinking of using a stainless steel grease filter for this purpose - the thing that sits in the extractor hood over a stove. I'm not seeing any fly ash but I am seeing soot when the fire becomes smokey, and it can take a little while to remedy this problem. It probably won't catch all the soot but some reduction is better than none.

I went to the local hardware store today. As luck would have it they had an aluminium grease filter for a range hood so I bought it. I was going to cut it up and try it out, but again as luck would have it this filter fitted my range hood. So, my wife took the new one and I was given an old one to experiment with! youtu.be/c18Wmn10EHI

I found a 6 inch catalytic converter on Amazon made by Condar for their stoves. USD208. Shouldn't that eliminate any soot or fly ash entering the cooking cavity of a black oven?

could you incorporate a water catcher? like the ones used in cloths dryers without exterior vents.

I get stainless at £2 per kilo at my localish non-ferrous scrapyard, industrial kitchen equipment is quite common, I'll look for fine mesh next time.

If you're in the E.U. there's every grade imaginable available from www.themeshcompany.com They're on ebay as mesh-company. I got my 3mm stainless mesh from them to make a screen for sieving grog.
