The last free program is version 2017. There's another more recent version which is also free but runs inside a browser. So one would need a quite fast computer to run it, and the models are kept online by Trimble.

Hi all, what version of sketchup are people running now? I don't like the idea of running in a browser as the ram usage would be insane

Sketchup Make 17 is the last free version as far as I know. That is, the last version that didn't run in a browser.

I use Sketchup 17, but there is an annoying problem with it:
I have my monitor set up to turn off after some minutes, but when this happens Sketchup 17 'locks up', uses 100% of the CPU, and has to be closed to escape from this.
Does anyone have a solution to this? (other than changing my monitor and sleep settings.)
Thanks!

For any Linux users out there, Sketchup Make 2017 works quite well in WINE. I personally run it in a Sway/Wayland setup on Fedora, so I'm sure it would run even better in a more typical X11 session.
I used Sketchup 8 in WINE for years, but it's had a few more bugs, and it's hard to track down a copy at this point.

To do this now, use the Internet Archive. Go to the wayback machine: web.archive.org/Copy and paste this url: https://help.sketchup.com/en/downloading-older-versions Select August 14, 2020 for the snapshot. Click on the Make 2017 version to download.
