I have been searching and have not found much on how ceramic fiber shapes are cast or molded. Some things I have kinda put together are this;
Material is bulk loose ceramic fiber binder is colloidal silica in water solution one method at least for forming fiber boards is a tank full of fiber solution(slurry) and a mold is lowered in and filled. Then it is raised and the excess water leaks through a porous material and the fibers settle out. Similar to hand made paper. Vacuum forming is apparently also used some how.
Does anyone have the inside scoop?

I've often wondered if one could use ceramic fiber blanket with rigidizer to similar effect.

I have 2 boards of 1" that I'll be using for the batch box I plan on building and I could use that for the riser but I'd rather use a vacuum formed cylinder/sleeve/tube, whatever you want to call it. I was thinking I could buy www.ceramicfiberonline.com/product/ceramic-fiber-spun-blanket-8280548300/ and wrap it around a metal mesh to 2" thickness soaking it with rigidizer as I wrapped. The metal mesh would burn out and leave minimal residue.

No, not for a riser but I'm working on a mini backpack stove the burns small sticks and was looking at a monolithic design. And yes vortex, I love the 5 minute riser, I was actually planning on a ceramic blanket riser in my stove from that design. So simple and yet brilliant.
