Heh.. Welcome Ernie!! I just set it up today.. Barely had time to build the Rumford, let alone a nice warmed Rocket bench.. For now we'll have to be satisfied with the 'ol three-stone. I had hoped that you would join.. Here you are.. I plan on posting some of my recent stuff, perhaps in a day or so. I've been fooling with casting systems for heat risers.. My current, personal fave is using a plastic 5 gallon bucket and a piece of stove-pipe. Place one inside the other (just guess) and fill between. Slip out the pipe, flip the bucket upside down, tap, slide and poof! Instant heat riser. I've been using sawdust and clay mixtures with good results. I don't expect them to last very long, good for a bit 'tho. I like the 5 gallon bucket thing as it's easy, the bits are easy to find and it produces results almost instantly. I find that two of these stacked is just right for a 20 gallon barrel. I photographed the process, will post soon.

Hi Everyone, I just posted the link to this discussion at the Rocekt Stoves.com site. Thanks for doing all the legwork to create it, Donkey. It feels comfortable in here and the ads? What ads. I have a question after a very inspiring workshop at the Commonweal Gardens/Regeneratoive Design Institute. I am going to find the right topic to post it to, or perhaps even start my own! Welcome all newcomers, howdy Donkey and Ernie. Cheers, Leslie

well i dont get round here much; heck im just lazy. Any hoo Erica and i just did a workshop down in California at Fox circle farms. sorry we didnt get to drop in and say hi to you or Les but our time to come visit was cut short due to famiely stuff. However it looks like i'll be heading down again soon. I sent Les a scad of pic's to post so soon they may be on the site.
FYI donkey the slight taper in the top of the heat riser works pretty well. I combined the taper with a vortex edge and dropped the heat torus about 3 inches. the torus seems to be centerd on the top rib of the drum. well hope ya'll have a fun merry and safe holidays and my love to you. Ernie

so to let you all know whats going on with Erica and I and so you can see a few more pic's i would like to direct you to www.ernieanderica.info Erica and i are currently working on getting our rocket inspected and approved here in portland. also a report on the heating bills; we live in a house that used to be heated with gas. so we get a bill that shows use of gas as compared to last year we use one sixth the gas that was used. wich means the only thing that is costing us is the hot water heater and the cost of actually having the gas meter. the sum total payment we make each month is $30.00 most of that cost is the meter.
