Hi, Sorry for my poor english. I start to build a rocket batch only to make canning. This is the drawing. I'm chosing a 100mm diam modèle on the Peter data bank But I want to use coal (start with wood and after the magic dragon is hot, use coal). Why? Because I make a lot of recycling, and some guys give me 2 tonnes of coal. You can see some pictures on my blog (link)
Sorry it's only in french Thank's

Looks really good. The pics are easy to follow. Very professional.
You may have some issues to work out with coal; the burning properties are significantly different. Best of luck.

If you get enough heat in the riser for secondary combustion of wood gas, then coal will work for a short time until the whole unit cools too much ... That's my uneducated prediction, anyway.
The batchrocket is an optimised system for dry wood only.

Congratulations on getting it running!
Hey Pierre, what did you cast your stove parts out of? Nice casting job.
Also in your pics it looks like you've made a few prototypes in the past.

Mix of up to 30% coal works all right.

Thank's Yes i made some prototypes in the past but they did'nt wok great, that's why i build a new one. I use a middle cost refractory cement to make the casting. This one link

Mix of up to 30% coal works all right. I was testing 12h with 100% coal but after 2h preheating with 100% ultra dry wood, but with a grid on the floor for oxygen

In order to get smoke out of a batch box, I would add "burning on a grid".
Leave out the grid, use front air close to the bottom only to begin with. Load the thing with biggest pieces at the bottom, smallest pieces on top. Lit it on top.
