Hello! I am, as the topic incorporates, a Finn, and I am planning to build a rocket fired sauna, which should incorporate a stove with the heat riser encased in stones which in addition are encased in a metal framework, which would be insulated. We tend to throw a lot of water in our stoves stones, so it can cause several issues withthe initial idea. The outer frame would also act as part of the chimney, sort of mock up version of a "smoke sauna stove" or "true sauna stove" as I am trying to figure out how to use heat as efficiently as possible to heat up the stones, preferrably with a continuous burn. I have a rough idea of how to start the project, but on the optimal structure of the burner - riser would be intresting to know. I am thinking of pre-heating the outer part by channeling the burning gases throuh there in the first stage of ignition and once starting up, direct them to the riser.
Initial thoughts would be appreciated. I will be adding scetches of my rough idea soon, just so that you could get the idea more clearly, as Iam not certain my rambling made any sense yet.

Terve kustaa! I' ve been also pondering the sauna-stove construction options more than a year now in my head. It ends up being tricky like u found too. Riser heat cannot in my opinion be harnessed for stones as all the heat is needed in the riser for valid rocket operation and clean burn, however the heat coming from riser can be harnessed on the other hand. So probably during next summer I'll be going with batch rocket sauna stove inside of this kind of structure: www.ponttouunit.com/ponttokiuas/kuvagalleria-kiukaat/or google "pönttökiuas" So far I am thinking it would be only viable option. Stones would be inside refractory / firebrick cage just above the riser, behind the door. During sauna time (after fire has died) the door is opened and water is thrown on rocks inside. Greetings from Lempäälä, -Antti-

Hello Antti,
Any updates on your sauna stove? As myself, I'm planning to build a batch rocket smoke sauna so would like to get any info/tips I can get to.

Looks very cool. Inspiration for me. As soon as I have mine, I'll make a post too.
