Hi, I'm new here and I have a couple questions.....My husband is building us a rocket stove and I have some questions if you don't mind. He's building it from an old Craftsman air pressure tank we had and he's using 5" square tubing for the L thing inside it. Going to fill the tank with perlite. He's cut the tank off about 6 in. and going to weld the top back on it and cut the square hole out in the top for that L shaped thing the smoke comes through and the wood goes in at the bottom.........He's worried he has the chimney too tall for it. I'm having fits remembering what all these parts are called, I'm sorry. I know there is a combustion chamber but not sure that's it or not. Anyway the area you put your wood in. He's got it all cut out and going to start welding it all together soon.
ALSO I watched a video gbacon did and he said not to close them up all the way because when it heats up it could explode...... What do you guys do, just drill a small hole somewhere toward the bottom for the built up air to go out? How large of a hole if that's the case.
If he has the part where you put your wood at 10" then how long would the other part that goes up the wall inside the tank need to be? I've read you can get them too long or too short so we didn't want to mess it up. Thank you for your help!

Rosemarie, say to him to stop watching youtube videos. They're mostly shitty.
Except thoses who have a fair bit of videos, and give follow ups.
The core, would it be J L or batch, can't in any circumstances be made of metal. Metal is doomed.

lol well that's what it's made of, metal but thick square tubing for the burn chamber and the combustion chamber. There I remembered!!! lol having fits with the memory these days. OK he said his burn chamber is 14" long and 5" square and the combustion chamber is 24"x5". Looks like he's cutting it off like 6" from the chalk line on the comb. cham. thank you all for all the help!!!! I really appreciate it!
