OK here's my plan I'm making an outdoor batch rocket boiler. I plan to make an uninsulated riser core from some sort of fire clay cast or make my own fire clay bricks and stack and such. And then surround that in a firm of a sort and put in loose filled vermiculite . So for the core what would be the strongest mix so as to not crumble and such. I don't believe I need the insulating properties because the whole thing will have a huge amount of insulation around it but correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks!

Nope buckeyenut, you're right, you can have a little mass in the middle of the riser. Most of us do. As long as it is well insulated. The thing is, the less mass, the faster your stove will be up to properly functioning temperature. I use refractory clay flue ellements from Landini, tona, schiedel etc. Easy to build that way. If you are in the us, the last link here donkey32.proboards.com/post/10637/thread could be of some interest. THo, the whole discussion is.

Thanks I've been reading nonstop for like two weeks on this forum. Driving my wife crazy lol. But I love all the information. But I'm in America so all the dimensions take me forever to convert lol.
