Hi everybody.
Well, i've scavenged thoses home heating oil tanks, to make the bells for the workshop heater. The problem i have now, is how to clean the insides? I mean, how do i get to the last liters of fuel, what do i do with it after? Any idea on how to clean the deposit?

Uh, fire? Would the metal survive a fire? Do you have place to do the burn without getting in trouble?
Otherwise I suggest a citrus degreaser, rinse and repeat.

Well, i think it's just matter of emptying the last of the fuel and deposit. If the walls are oily, that doesn't matter, soot will take care of that quick. Plus i have plenty of draft. I think, the most of what i need is time to lift the tanks with the crane, drill a hole in the bottom, and let all that escape. May buy two cleanout doors, and weld them in place. I need to think of the arrangement i need.

Be very careful with welding or cutting these. The vapor can explode quite easily especially when heated. I would try and burn it out with the caps off before doing anything like welding or cutting on it but that's just my 2 cents

drain all the old fuel oil out , then plug the drain port and fill COMPLETELY as in 100% with water
that will flush out the little bit of fuel oil that was left and the fumes that are highly flamable,
that should get rid of the BIG BANG problem if done right .then proceed with caution!
p.s. hot water works best for this!!

I have a fuel tank I was planning to do the same but I sort of ruined it. I used the water method also and added a bottle of dish liquid. But forgot about it and winter came along....the tank did not like the expanding ice. So now it seems I'm gonna have a large smoker for hogs and deer lol
