Mixed up some water glass & pigment and tried a few small test spots. The spot on the side of the barrel, on cob did not work. Pulled free on its own as it heated and fell to the floor. However a few drops on the bare metal lid, solidified and stuck ! temps were around 600 F. I don't know how well they would stay when the barrel top goes over 1000F. The test spots of pigment & water worked flawlessly, the spots I sprayed a commercial shellac on did not rub off before heating but after heating they had lost their shellac coating and would rub off. This was a quick thin spray of shellac, not waxless shellac. I will try again with a good quality shellac later.
