I had a 55gal barrel, remnant of an old stove. So I put an external 6'' feed tube on, the exhaust is a piece of 5''. The barrel got hotter with the brick attempt, yet not very air-tite as the fire chases up the feed tube burning off the galvanized coating. Thinking of opening up the bottom to an 8'' and laying the feed right against the barrel. Ma-by have a door at the bottom to start up the fire easily. And increase the exhaust size. One thing this increases the cooking surface of the top. Another alternative for a Tipi heater. [/img] [/img] [/img]

Does the flame dump into the open barrel, or is there piping inside the barrel leading to the chimney? Do you get much smoke?
