the metal for my p channel has arrived. it is 36mm square ID. i need it to be 36 x11mm. while thinking how i could reduce it to the right dimensions i thought i might try just bending one side to 11mm something like the mouthpiece of a tin whistle or a recorder. i would retain the cut out on the riser side of the port, and keep the sides on. anyone got any thoughts on this? the angle should speed up the air flow somewhat. haven't try putting it into a virtual wind tunnel, so don't know if would make any difference but cant see it detracting from anything.

I think i get what you're saying. That almost sounds like a "jet" in a carb. The tin whitsle mouthpiece shape sounds like a good idea.
But how hard to cut and implement would it be?
Myself, i would just cross cut three sides of the pipe , bend the remaining 90° so you have 2 pieces of tube at a right angle. Then cut the whole back of the "down" pipe at 11mm depth, and use the back of the firebox for a backwall. Puting a bit of sheet metal to cover the cut elbow.

i was thinking cut the sides of the tube along the length about 50mm and cut coff a piece so you get the right depth of cutout to suit the port thickness, then just bend the remaining cut part to the correct thickness. hope that makes sense. i will try it with card first, and see how easy it is.
