Alex, I've used needles to good effect in cast refractory cores. However, I still think the cores will crack, always. The temperature cycles are so wide and the frequency so high that over time I believe they will always crack. Maybe not right away, but over time I think they all will. The needles will help hold the refractory together, but I don't think they will stop them from cracking. Personally, I believe expecting the refractory to crack and surrounding with something to contain it is the best course of action. I believe this is why you never see just refractory stoves, or furnaces, or anything. Always refractory within a container. But yes, needles will help.

Thank you matthewwalker!
What is the amount of needles added per 25kg bag?

3%-5% by weight, or somewhere around that figure, is a good starting point.
