been testing my oil based "thing" with the IR temperature probe. the temperature of the 150mm flue pipe coming out of the barrel is around 60C dropping to 40C at 1.5 metres. is this going to hot enough to add any thermal mass like cob? what sort of temperatures are the pipes normally? this going to be the normal temperature i going to be running the stove at. temperature should stay around this as i can control it fairly precisely by adjusting the air and fuel flow. any hotter and the roof will get too hot. at the moment i can keep everything no hotter than 40C.

sorry when i say "flue" what i mean is the temperature of the duct. i am using a 1.5 metre length of air con ducting. not sure if it will get hot enough to make it worthwhile to try and use it as thermal mass. the highest temperature i have seen so far is around 60C near the drumes and 35 where it leaves the yurt. i could use 3 metres if it seems worthwhile.
