Hi all,
Has anyone tried using vitrified clay pipe? This could work for the burn tunnel and riser with a 90 degree coupling. These are fired at 1200C.
Good to be on here via tapatalk.

there is a long thread on this somewhere from a couple of months ago on the permies forum that satamax started. the general opinion was it may work or it may not. it is not a particularly cheap option either, unless you already have the pipe.

Vitrification makes ceramics much less tolerant of thermal shock, as due to the glassy structure cracks will easily propagate.
Remember it became vitrified at 1200°C because at least one of its components cannot withstand such high temperatures.

thanks max that is the one. i am going down the perlite fireclay route 150mm cardboard tube inside a 280mm oil drum surrounded by 25mm of ceramic blanket. the loose perlite inside the oil drum is still letting a lot of heat out. i could go for a larger outer but as i am getting the ceramic blanket cheap i will try that option first.
