Hi everybody!
Well, a 12cm (less than 5 inches) batch rocket range retrofit, might seem a smidge small!
But it isn't!
I went from 18C° to 28C° in the flat, in 2 hours or thereabouts. Might have burned 5 kilos of wood, if that.
Ok, it has no heat recovery or not much, a gas labyrinth with a plunger tube, and 1m² of isa.
The firebox is 18x18cm square, no V (no choice, i couldn't do bigger! That could heat a well insulated 40m² house, absolutely no prob. (my flat isn't well insulated, and i have no mass or barely none, to store heat)
The firebox was orange earlier on. And that landini chimney flue has cracked, but it copes with the heat seemingly. I'm happy with the separate elements held by wire construction.
I'm quite impressed!

Guys!
I light this range every day or two. I have base heat by an electric accumulator, on night time electricity (don't know if that exists on your side)
It's just a monster. The smaller than normal firebox, and shortish heat riser cope real well with my 11m of drafting chimney.
It's roaring. So far, none of the rockets i've done were nowhere near the growl of this one!

You mean this is better than your rockets? Why do you think that is? Is it shooting more warm air out directly to the room than with regular mass?

None of my rockets had much mass for the moment. What i mean, it's the best rocket i've made so far draftwise! You hear it, and it's on the verge of scary!

So guys, a little update. The thing gives suplemental heat, not base. It's no good for cooking . I might try a wok in one of the rings at some point. I've been burning it quite regularly lately, as it's cold. And that micro bell made in the chimney works nice. At about One square metre, I manage to heat the surrounding stone wall. It's still warmer than room temp eight hours later. So I consider this as a proof of concept. Pretty sure you could face a doorway in a thick stone wall, with bricks or else. And use that wall as a bell and mass.

Well, i'm comming back to this, it's working all right for cooking now. It all depends what i want to do. Tonight it's "saucice aux choux" (pork sausage with cabage chopped inside the mince) With chopped onions, chopped taters, all that boiled with white wine (cheapo stuff of course!) some water and some stock!
