Hello,
Has anyone embeeded thermometers into their bench for temperature readings?
I am interested to know what is the temperature at these points:
At the point where the exhaust gases leave the heat riser / enter the bench
About midway along the pipe, if the piping is 30 feet then a reading at 15 feet
At the point where the exhause gases leave the bench / enter the chimney flue
At the surface of the bench
If you have any temperature readings what are the dimensions of you bench?
Thank you.
Patrick

Here are a few from my 6" J RMH. There is a digital thermometer encased in my bench adjacent to the core and next to the outlet flue in the bench (intended to be the coldest spot in the bench). This fluctuates between 103* and 118* F, the top of the bench regularly runs about 130*F. There is a third thermometer on the outside steel pipe at the exit flue that regularly runs between 110*-130* F.

Thanks,
Doing my first RMH and I want to embed some thermometers. But I don't know how high of a temperature the bench will experience to get appropriate thermometers for specific sensor points.
So from what you say I don't need anything really exotic.
What did you embed?

The imbedded thermometer is in a piece of copper pipe. I embedded the copper pipe into the bench during construction and use it as a sleeve for the probe from a Johnson 419 controller that is linked to a water circulation pump. The controller has constant temp readout in *F or *C. I'm pretty comfortable with the accuracy because it's pretty deep in the sleeve and it gives me the option of taking it out of the sleeve if the sensor ever goes bad.
Keep in mind that there is a lot of variability in temperature depending on your system design.

Great idea on the copper pipi for the sensor. I was wondering how to safely embed it into the bench.
Does your hookup imply you circulate water thru the bench? What is the purpose of the pump?
