I have clay on my boots! I have a mix of silicon silicate, clay and rock wool, waiting for my further attention. Mold is made, just need to mix it better and add more rock wool. No measurements, just the seat of my pants, jumping in the deep end. Wish me luck!

Thanks for the encouragement! Well, I used entire batt of rockwool, about 4'X 15" X3",a whole 4 pound(?) bag of sodium silicate, not enough clay and too much water.Damn, knew I would happen... About 5 gallons all told and still not enough to fill the mould! Added some clay scraps, and a bunch of perlite.I didn't want any insulation in the core at all, but I needed bulk, and that was at hand. Next time I will not turn my nose up at sand... I am not holding my breath for good results, but I am treating it like learning to bake bread. The ingredients are more expensive, but my time on task is still the component that counts the most. If I persevere,it is my hope to one day to be like Matt and Donkey, able to make a rocket out of dryer lint and playdough!
I am seriously considering buying a cheap drill press(wanted one anyway), and using it with a plaster mixing paddle. The belts that most of them use should help prevent burning it out and it has to be netter than the aluminum bat/ gloved hand method.
I forgot to line the mold with plastic/foil/grease, but I f I can leave it be for long enough I think that won't matter.

Well no matter how it turns out, you are still ahead of me. My mold should be done this weekend. I can't wait to see your dryer lint and playdough rocket. I will need the recipe. Fortunately, I have plenty of both ingredients. That will sure beat the $40 bags of refractory mix that I picked up.
So, will you be able to use this rocket? Hopefully, it is salvageable.
