Hi all, I'm new to the forum, so please excuse me if I'm not exactly tuned to you all. I'm in south west of France in a wooden house with thick insulation. I just finished a rocket stove from a 220liters (55gallons) barrel. There are 10 meters long (33 feet) of brick tunnelling and is featured with a copper pipe around the barrel to heat a water tank complementing the thermal solar panels. That's enough to keep the hot water between 50 and 60°C (120 to 140F) for 4 persons. We burn 8kg (16lbs) a day to keep the house between 21 and 23°C (70-74F) and heat the water. The total weight is above 4 tons. We plastered the whole beast with this mix : -2 buckets of red clay -6 buckets of orange sand -800grams of red oxyde pigment -400grams of sienne clay pigment Here are some pics : Front side from the kitchen Back side from the cocooning zone ! On top and down left the copper pipes

Welcome Ceddz. That is an amazing build, both the heater and your lovely home. Inspiring! I'd love to see more pics of the home, it's just gorgeous.

Thank you very much, I made a blog when I built my house (in French), it's a bit old (5 years) but you'll have a good overview of the whole stuff. Into the staircase (escalier) section, you'll see my old rocket stove thak I dismanteled to build the red one. It was a 6" pipe installation and too messy to work well. Now the 8" RMH is stunning ! very nice heater! It blends with your space nicely! My wife thinks it has a high WAF (wife acceptance factor).

Ceddz, Hi, I also live in France and researching the thermal mass rocket stove, planning to build one in the house. Is there any chance i could email you for advise of your experiences? Many thanks Tigger24
