Do you think you could take this flu 2 metres down so as to heat a downstairs room using this design? I have heard that there is a flu height to depth ratio somewhere... I ask because my house has bedrooms downstairs while the fire box is upstairs with the lounge room and kitchen

I suppose anything is possible but the variables are many. Height of chimney, chimney insulated or not, efficiency of the heater ie how much heat is spews up the chimney etc.
I should mention that the by pass shown was devised to store heat in a heat battery similarly to the way a rocket stove does in a bench. In this case it was a brick and mortar wall behind a wood stove.
