Thanks Peter, I enjoy following your design, whoever makes it.
One thing I did not realize, you burn a half batch before you run a test. I thought you relied on the starter kindling to start the main fire.

Thanks Peter, lovely articles...
Michel is making some beautiful stoves, I enjoyed seeing his approach to heating water too.

Or at least to become a world superstar.

congratulations Peter realy nice articles about the batch box , and that boiler is nice spin on these stoves .It raises one question for me thou.I always assumed -or propubly i read it somewhere around here-the height of the riser is measured from the top of the port´-burn tunel-,but in the article it says from the floor of the fire box,and now im confused.Could you please clarifaid it here or should i start new thred.Thx

radek, As far as I know, the riser of the batch box has always been measured from the firebox floor, or at least I did. But... more often than not, the lower part of the riser is made of fire brick of refractory castable because of the port construction. The rest of the height of the riser is often made from different materials as long as it is heat resistant and the same diameter as the lower part.
