Well I have finally managed to get a rocket fire going. This is rocket heater/stove mach4.
I will include a picture.
I have used some 1/4" thick metal pipe that is say 2 1/2feet tall with a pipe diameter of 6-7inches. The fire box and air intake part is the same width as the pipe diameter and about 5 or so inches tall. It has a shelf 2/3rds the way down for the wood to sit on and the air to flow underneath.
In my mach1, 2, and 3 rocket stoves I was able to get a fire going, and even got the metal glowing orange hot too. This was using smaller box tube on these past models.
One think I was not able to do was boil a pot of water on top of the chimney. I can do this fast with mach 4. And the other thing was the hot coals just kept blocking the air inlet.
Now with this latest version the air is suck through constantly which make the coals burn right up and the think works.
My idea for this it to.
1. put a BBQ plate on it and cook sausages, eggs etc and
2. Use it for heating when you sit around it.
The amount of clean hot heat that is smoke free coming out of the top is really really amazing.
Putting a hot plate is easy to do and there is no reason why it will not work. So that is number 1 solved.
But how can I make all that heat blow outwards and down to people sitting around it? Can I make up a steel umbrella for it, like you see on the propane gas patio heaters. Will that deflect the heat outwards and down do you think?
What about a 44 gallon drum over the top. (Do they really increase the airflow through the system). Then I could have it nice and hot giving off radiant heat, and have the drum say 4 inches off the ground and the hot air might then rise again all around us sitting around it?
What are everyones thoughts?
