Hi all.
I'm Manuel, from Leon, North-western Spain
I've read the Ianto's book and have been reading the forum topics and looking for some posts on smaller R.S. but some doubts have arisen and some help would be nice.
I do live in a rented house and the first thing that I had to consider and that determines the system design is the chimney tub: 4,72" (12cm) and the owner doesn't like me to change it. This exhaust tub goes straight up across the ceiling and then the roof (that space is almost as cold as the outer air) highest over the laid (I hope I've wrote it right, excuse my english )
Ianto, Ernie & Erika say nothing less than 6" for the system, but I've read some other guys who are building as small as 4" and it seems they have it working. I've read some one's saying exhaust diameter should be equal all the system long, but some others talk about being possible or even desirable to make the exhaust diameter proportional to gas temperature and so the ending portions could be made narrower...
So here's my question, and please, excuse me if it's been answered yet (I've used the search engine but I'm still confused about it):
Could I build a 6" system rocket and have the 4,72" exhaust?
Would a 4,7" all-way-out system work?
What if I do just the 4,7" rocket without mass?
Actually I do have a conventional wood stove directly connected to the 4,72" and it works well (at a lot of fuel expenses, thought) so I suppose just changing it for a 4,7" rocket w/o mass that could give equal or more radiant heat from the barrel with less fuel (that's important!) and less conatmination would be great!
It would be possible to add a small bench or two (5,5 feet each) if you do think it would work.
I would build the "J" with bricks or casting it with clay and perlite (lots of clay where I do live!!) as I've seen here. I do work with wood so it would be easy for me to make the casting dies and I'd like to make some casting experiments I'd share with all you here at the forums.
Well, I think I've given the numbers... what do you think about it?
Thank you in advance for your attention and for sharing your knowledge in the forum!
Have a nice day:
Manuel
