Has anybody else thought about building a small BioMass Gasifier like www.youtube.com/watch?v=SE5LdzmD0uY&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL and instead of injecting the gas into a gasoline or diesel engine, instead inject it into the burn chamber of a Rocket Stove? The BioMass Gasifier could be left outside the house for safety and only the piping need be introduced into the Rocket Stove. The Rocket Stove could be warmed up with wood as usual and once the Biomass Gasifier is producing gas, the gas could be injected into the burn chamber of the rocket stove and never have to worry about cleaning out the ashes from the rocket stove again, only the Biomass Gasifier would have to be cleaned and if it is outside that would even make it easier. The 5 gal Biomass Gasifier supposedly can run 45 to 50 minutes on a small load, imagine what a larger one with a bigger hopper could do.

Donkey at one point was talking about interest in one for a sauna for convenience of distance of seperation of stoking and heat utilization but other than that I don't recall anyone with experience on this forum. Hopefully someone can chime in and share some experience. I recommend great caution in this approach as tinkerers in this realm have met with disasterous results from explosions. It is quite a bit more complicated and lots more room for error but fascinating nonetheless. Personally, unless I had a demanding specific need, I would keep it simpler. But please share your experience!

Yep.. I was thinking about it but never tried it out. I seemed too complicated for what I wanted to accomplish at the time. I built the sauna (which is chronicled here somewhere) without the gasifier.
I still love the idea though and would be fascinated (and overjoyed) to see it pulled off.

Seems to me that what would be great is if it could be done without a blower, If the rocket stove itself provided the draft to do the job.

I would think a lot of heat will be lost from the gasifier if it is outside.

Yer probably right, the two step gasifier/rocket is going to loose heat outside at the gasifier end of things.. It might be worth it depending on why you'd need the thing in the first place.. My idea was to keep the smoky bits outside, also to keep the inside of the sauna dark (it was modeled after the native american sweat lodge) and I wanted the heat in the center of the room. At the time, it seemed that the gasifier would solve for all that. The pyrolysis would take place over six feet away and outside of the building. My thought was to stream the woodgas into the building and ignite it there under a heat riser. 'Course, I never built it, nor did I start any of the testing so there are a LOT of issues that I didn't even begin to figure out. In the end, it was simpler to just build the rocket stove inside.

I personally would never pipe producer gas into a building. One little mishap could asphyxiate the whole building. We are talking CO here people!!

Another major concern that is real and has unfortunately been experienced by tinkerers in this subject is explosion! This end of the spectrum is not for the casual!
