Hi all.
What's the use again of the angle cut bricks we put on the floor of the batch box? It's more than just to keep the P-channel in place I guess. Does it really affect the burn? I did some test runs today and didn't bother to make any and all seemed to burn more than fine so I started wandering if I forgot something.
Thanks all! Piet

Concentrate the coals, the collapsing wood, and therefore the heat energy for a more complete burn. How much gain vs. Flat floor? Don't know the %. Am I close, guys?

In a fire, if you have two logs, they burn better if they're close together so that the heat energy from one log contributes to the fire triangle of the other log. So, the V shape forces logs that might be on opposite sides of the box to fall together. The ash tends to accumulate over the secondary air channel protecting it from the fire.
